The YWCA of Canberra was established in 1929 and incorporated as a public not-for-profit company in 1935 to assist women in the national capital with accommodation, social and recreation services. Within a social justice and feminist framework, the YWCA of Canberra has grown to provide a broad range of services to assist women, young people, families and the community as a whole.The YWCA of Canberra is one of more than 30 local associations affiliated with the YWCA of Australia. In turn the YWCA of Australia is affiliated with the World YWCA. The YWCA of Australia is one of 122 national YWCA associations affiliated with the World YWCA.In this way the YWCA of Canberra is linked to a national and global community advancing social justice through advocacy, service provision and creating opportunities for the development of women, young people, families and communities.
